Pacific States

Carmen Willings
April 26, 2025

The Pacific states—California, Oregon, and Washington—are renowned for their dramatic coastlines, iconic beaches, and diverse natural landscapes. From California's sun-soaked shores and towering redwoods to Oregon's rugged cliffs and Washington's rainforests and volcanic peaks, the Pacific Coast offers a wealth of outdoor adventures, including hiking, surfing, and exploring charming coastal towns. The region also has a rich cultural history, with vibrant cities like San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland providing a mix of arts, cuisine, and local heritage.

Pacific States

The best time to visit the Pacific Coast states depends on your priorities and the specific region you plan to explore. Generally, spring (March–May) and fall (September–November) offer pleasant weather and smaller crowds, while summer (June–August) is ideal for beach vacations but tends to be the busiest season.
Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Northern California):
  • Best Time: Summer brings warm, dry weather perfect for exploring national parks and coastal areas.
  • Spring and Fall: Milder temperatures and fewer visitors make these seasons great for enjoying wildflowers, fall foliage, and sightseeing.
California:
  • Best Time: Spring and fall offer pleasant temperatures and lighter crowds.
  • Summer: Perfect for beach trips and water activities, but inland areas can get very hot.
  • Winter: Mild along the Southern California coast, with colder conditions inland and at higher elevations.
Pacific Coast Highway (PCH):
  • Best Time: Late spring through early fall offers clear skies and mild weather for scenic drives.
  • Tip: For fewer crowds, consider traveling during the shoulder seasons.
